Located in Vire-sur-Lot, a picturesque village in south-western France with a long and illustrious history of wine-making, Château du Cèdre, the domaine of the Verhaeghe brothers, is regarded as one of Cahors’ leading estates.
The 25 hectares of their vineyards are located on the coteaux de Bru. Its terroir is made of the 2 best types of soil of the Cahors appellation: [i]tran[i] with clay and limestones and the other with ferriferous sand mixed with pebbles and clay.
From the Malbec (locally known as Cot), Merlot and Tannat grape varieties, three red cuvées are produced. Only 1 hectare planted with Viognier, Sémillon, Muscadelle and Sauvignon is dedicated to the production of with wines.
Following the principles of reasoned culture, chimical herbicide and fertilizers are proscribed. Yields of these vines aged between 20 and 46 years are limited to 30 hl/ha on average.
Renowned for the regular quality of its great Cahors wines for more than 15 years, Château du Cèdre produces full and rich wines with notes of ripe and fresh fruit and elegant tannins.
