In the Eastern part of the Minervois, this estate of 35 ha is located in the heart of the Petit Causse, among garigues, pinewoods and the arid scrub lands. Shiraz, Carignan and Grenache share the rocky slopes of the Montagne Noire with the wild surrounding vegetation and draw from the diversity of the soils sweet but powerful aromas. Marl and limestone are mixed with red marble and shale. Below the Brama hill, the hot soils made of sandstone and limestone set the tone.
Since 1989, Sylvie and Michel Escande produce AOC Minervois and La Livinière wines. No place here for chemical fertilisers. The only fertiliser used is horse manure from the Percheron mares of the estate which help ploughing. After a manual harvest, a careful vinification and a natural ageing, wines express the terroir of Borie de Maurel with their powerful, generous and silky aromas.
