| THE WINERY | |
 |
Lost in a wild and beautiful valley, Domaine de l’Hortus (55 ha) lies on steep rocky slopes, right between the Pic Saint Loup and Mont de l’Hortus. Jean Orliac, grandson of a winegrower, and his wife decided at the beginning of the seventies to return to the land. They finally built their house and their winery, intriguing buildings made almost entirely from wood, in this remote place.
As an agricultural engineer, Jean Orliac selected with great care the barren plots to cultivate and the grape varieties most suited to the sub-Mediterranean climates of the valley. With their daughter Marie and their sons François and Yves, the Orliac couple choose the best biodynamic practices to cultivate their vines and to respect the environment in the same time.
Today, Domaine de l’Hortus is renowned for the quality of its great red, white and rosé wines produced with Shiraz, Mourvèdre and Grenache grapes for the reds and Chardonnay, Viognier, Roussanne and Sauvignon grapes for the whites.
