THE WINERY
Domaine Impérial Hetszolo, founded in 1502 and spreading over 45 ha vineyard, is the oldest and the most famous estate in Tokaj, a small Hungarian village located in the southern part of the appellation. The soil of this region is loess which covers only 10% of the Tokaj appellation. The rest is made of clay with a subsoil of volcanic rock. A micro-climate and a unique soil enables the Domaine Impérial Hetszolo wines to be traditional ‘Grand Cru d’Aszu’ with less acidity, a good balance and more fruit.

Furmint and Harsevelu are harvested manually, one grape at a time, and vinified separately. Furmint is a delicious dry white wine whereas Aszu is a exquistely refined sweet wine with and infinite complexity.

As done traditionally in Hungary, these wines can be consumed either alone at the end of the day or as an apéritif.

Aszu will perfectly accompany foie-gras, game, blue cheeses and desserts.

"King of Wines and Wine of Kings" (Louis XIV).

Ideal serving temperature: 10-12° C (50-54° F).

Ageing: All Aszu wines can be consumed upon their release (2 to 4 years after harvest date). The great Aszu wines (notably the 5 and 6 puttonyos) can age for decades.
