	THE WINERY

	Following the Médoc tradition, Château Lafaurie Peyraguey owes its name to a man as well as to a place. “Pey” means “bare hill” and indicates that the terroir is made of gravelly slopes. Lafaurie was the name of a famous winemaker who took over the estate in 1794 as its former owner, Monsieur de Pichard, had met its end at the guillotine during the French revolution. In 1917, Désiré Cordier, who already owned Château Talbot, purchased Lafaurie-Peyraguey, 1er Grand Cru Classé. His family has maitained ownership through to today. The 40ha vineyard is planted with Sémillon (90%), Sauvignon (5%) and Muscadelle (5%), which enjoy an excellent microclimate that transforms decay into gold . Thanks to constant improvements, Château Lafaurie Peyraguey is clearly on the up and its last vintages are definitely wines of quality.
