Deuxième Grand Cru Classé in the Médoc, Château Léoville Las Cases was founded with the division of Château Léoville into three different estates. Château Léoville Las Cases was the larger part and belonged to Pierre-Jean de Las Cases, the Maréchal de Camps under Napoleon.
The estate is delimited by Château Latour in the north and by the commune of Saint-Julien in the south. Its 97 ha vineyards is made up of four plots. The biggest one, the Grand Clos, is surrounded by a stone wall whose archway is surmounted by the lion of Las Cases, which also graces the label. The vineyards are planted to 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 19% Merlot, 13% Cabernet Franc and 3% Petit Verdot.
Jean-Hubert Delon has poured his heart and soul into the estate and has produced wines for several decades, which are among the very best of the Saint-Julien appellation even in the lesser vintages. Château Léoville Las Cases sublime wine is a “super-second” with a considerable regualirity.
