Located in the commune of Beychevelle, Château Gruaud-Larose was founded by a priest, Abbé Gruaud, in 1751. The estate passed to his nephew Sébastien Larose who appended his name to that of the property.
The Gruaud-Larose estate amounts to 150 hectares of land, of which 82 hectares are planted to vines. The terroir is typical of the region with deep Quaternary gravel and planted with the five traditional grape varieties: 57% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30%Merlot , 8% Cabernet Franc, 3% Petit Verdot and 2% Malbec. The average age of vines is 45 years.
The estate is run according to the principles of innovation, tradition and respect of the environment. Château Gruaud-Larose is a complex wine with a firm and masculine style in comparison with other Saint-Julien wines.
