This estate has been well named! Indeed, “Cos” means “The Hill of Pebbles” in the old Gascon language. Its vineyards cover 67 hectares of Quaternary gravels on a hill situated on the banks of the Gironde. Located between Pauillac and Saint-Estèphe and close to the ocean and the river, the micro-climate acts like a temperature regulator, thus avoiding extreme temperatures.
A precious terroir in fact where old Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot vines (20 years old at least) undergo cultural tasks, which are for most of them done manually.
The Maharadjah of Saint-Estèphe, Louis-Gaspard d’Estournel would be proud of the wine now produced in his estate. Château Cos d’Estournel is still worthy of its motto which can be summed up with the following words: ”Power, Purity, Fidelity and Perfectionism”.
