THE WINERY
Classified as “Premier Cru du Haut-Pomerol” since 1868, Château L’Evangile was founded by the Léglise family from Libourne. As early as the 18th century, they were deeply involved in building the Pomerol vineryad.
In the 19th century, the estate was renamed “L’Evangile” and its configuration with its 13 hectares of vineyards has not changed since that time. Its building in the style of the Second Empire was built at the end of the 19th century.
In 1990, the estate was purchased by the Domaines Barons de Rotschild (Lafite). A more refined selection of the fine wines began and a second wine was created. Vines of Merlot (70%) and Cabernet Franc (30%) were partially renewed and the tank-room and the chais were completely renovated.
After an 18-month ageing in oak barrels (including 70% minimum in new barrels), Château L’Evangile is a full and elegant wine . A remarkable bouquet and an unmistakable finesse are followed by velvety and ripe tannins as well as a long and powerful finish.
