First I am, second I was, but Mouton doesn’t change.
THE WINERY
Classified as Pauillac Second then as First Growth in 1973, Chateau Mouton Rothschild owes its name to Baron Nathaniel de Rothschild, from the English branch of the family, who bought Chateau Brane-Mouton in 1853.
The 20-year old Baron Philippe took a deep interest in this estate and decided to make Mouton the very best wine. Impetuous and innovative, he was the first to introduce ”entire chateau bottling”. He also built the famous ”Grand Chai”, a 100-metre barrel hall and had the imagnitive idea to launch in 1945 unique labels created for each vintage by famous painters such as Miro, Picasso and Delvaux.
Chateau Mouton Rothschild has 75 hectares of vines mostly planted with Cabernet Sauvignon (80%). Mouton-Rothschild has an elegant and powerful style. Regular and harmonious, with a remarkable ageing potential, this wine gains extraordinary complexity with long-term cellaring.
Without any doubt one of the greatest wines in the world!
