Château Lynch-Bages, classified as Fifth Growth , belonged for three quarters of a century to the Lynch family, who descended of John Lynch of Galway, a young Catholic Irishman who was chased out of his country. This estate used to be called “Domaine de Bages”, in reference to the very ancient hamlet of Bages. It was purchased by the Cazes family in 1938 and the estate is now run by the fourth generation.
Jean-Michel Cazes, nicknamed the “new Baron of Bordeaux”, hired Daniel Llose, Catalan and son of a winemaker in Banyuls, Jean-Paul Polaert, born in Sauterne, in a family who has always been in contact with the world of wine and Stephen Carrier. He also owns Château Les Ormes de Pez and Villa Bel-Air.
The vineyards of 90 hectares are situated at the gates of Pauillac, on one of the most beautiful gravel ridges of the commune, the Bages plateau which overlooks the Gironde estuary. The powerful structure of Lynch-Bages wines, their length and their good ageing potential are the characteristics of the great Pauillac wines. Château Lynch-Bages is much sought after by discerning connoisseurs.
