Château Haut-Batailley belongs to the Borie family who also owns Château Ducru Beaucailleu and Château Grand-Puy Lacoste. The 22 hectares planted to vines, with the usual gravelly terroir, run southwest out of Pauillac, near Saint-Julien. They belonged to Château Batailley until 1942 when the estate was divided between the brothers François and Marcel Borie.
Classified as Fifth Growth, Château Haut-Batailley is a very charming wine and one of the greatest success of François-Xavier Borie. Pauillac with its structure and its good ageing potential, this wine takes some Saint-Julien characteristics with its delicate balance and its aromas of flowers, vanilla and spices. Château Haut-Batailley may also offer the immediate pleasure of the New World wines.
