Both Grand-Puy used to be one larger estate which was divided between two sisters in the 17th century and each new estate took the name of its current owner: “Lacoste” and “Ducasse”.
The vineyards of Château Grand-Puy Ducasse ranked as 5ème Cru now amount to 40 hectares in Pauillac and lie mainly in three different sections. Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot are planted on typical soils of deep gravel. Built in 1820 near the Gironde river in Pauillac rather than out among the vines, the chateau looks over the quay and houses the ”Maison des vins” and the seat of the “Commanderie du Bontemps”, the Médoc winemakers' fraternity.
Château Grand-Puy Ducasse has improved its quality over the last fifteen years. The style of Château Grand-Puy Ducasse is very classic with full-bodied wines with lots of texture.
