Third Growth, Château Giscours is located 20 kilometres north-west of Bordeaux, in the Margaux appellation area. Its vineyard of 80 hectares covers four croupes made up of coarse gravel. The first mention made of Château Giscours date back to 1330 but the chateau we can see nowadays was only built in 1847 by the Count of Pescatore, a great Parisian banker, in order to receive the Empress Eugénie, the wife of Napoléon III.
Château Giscours passed from owner to owner, going through a period of decline until it was bought by Eric Albada Jelgersma, a Dutch businessman francophile for many years and in love with the Médoc. Thanks to his know-how and significant investments, the estate was modernised. In January 2001, Château Giscours was the first of the Bordeaux classed growth to be awarded the certification of its quality system in accordance with the regulations of ISO 9002. This certification guarantees the quality of the wine production from the fermentation to the shipment of wine to the customers.
Thanks to such a commitment to care and attention, Château Giscours is a rich and harmonious wine with a good ageing potential and it would be wise to take advantage of it.
