Taken over by Lorraine and Thierry Rustmann of Château Talbot in 1999, the vineyards of Château Senejac spread over 37 unbroken hectares and are located on a plateau overlooking the village of Le Pian Médoc. This former baronial seat is situated in the south of Haut-Médoc.
Classified Cru Bourgeois, the subsoil is composed of deep gravels, sand and clay. The average age of vines is 35. Cabernet Sauvignon (48%), Merlot (37%), Cabernet Franc (11%) and Petit Verdot (4%) are cultivated with great care and in the most traditional way possible. All of the harvesting is done by hand and with wooden baskets to ensure the highest quality and to take up most care with the grapes until they arrive at the winery’s sorting tables. After vinification, the wine is drained by gravity into French oak barrels (30% new oak) in which it will age for 12 to 15 months.
