Château Climens is a unique jewel. Only five families have run the estate since its creation in the 16th century and its surface area in a continuous single vineyard has practically remained unchanged. This continuity has allowed to get the best out of this terroir and to maintain and to improve a family heritage. Premier Cru Classé Sauternes-Barsac, the destiny of the château is now in the hands of Bérénice Lurton, who sees to perpetuate Château Climens good fame.
Climens terroir is exceptional. Situated on the highest point of the Barsac appellation, 30 hectares of red soils dotted with stones are planted only to Sémillon whose average age boasts 35 years. There is a perfect harmony between this varietal and this terroir, both of which are conducive to the development of noble rot. Each plot is shown constant and meticulous care and only perfectly botrytised berries are picked.
One of the rare single variety growths of the region, the wine of Château Climens is something of a myth thanks to the passion and the work of devoted men and women.
